Join Language Exchange Tokyo: A Fun, Friendly Community For Language Learners! ‬‬

Have you been studying a language for a long time, but you freeze when face to face with a native speaker?

Do you want to increase your vocabulary?

Are you interested in improving your communication skills?

If you said yes to any of the above, consider joining Language Exchange Tokyo (LEX). It’s a convenient, stress-free language learners’ community run by Lifehouse International Church, where you can make new friends and have fun practicing language!

Choose What Fits You

We meet on ZOOM, so you can join from anywhere in Japan or the world, and choose what fits your schedule and language level! Our Sunday afternoon Japanese-English session from 4:10-5:00 p.m. every week attracts between 15 and 30 members, from beginners to intermediate speakers. We also have a brief Thursday night Japanese-English exchange, and more advanced speakers are free to join Business English Chat on Monday nights at 9 p.m.

If you want to brush up your Chinese, we have a Japanese-Chinese-English Exchange on Sunday afternoons from 2:00-3:30 (these dates and times are subject to change, so please check the links at the bottom of this post for the latest info).

Stress-Free

Each session is led by both an English and a Japanese-speaking host, so even if you’re a beginner you won’t feel lost!

Make New Friends

We have a mixed group of guys, girls, college students and working adults, so you’ll get a chance to meet all kinds of people. This is a safe space (no flirting!) to make new friends, have fun conversations, and play games!

Still not sure if LEX is for you?
Listen to what some of our current members have to say!

Why did you originally join LEX?

‭‭Natsuko (practicing English)‬‬
“I was looking for an international church in Tokyo. I was too shy to go to the services alone but found a LEX meeting at the Blue Bottle coffee on Meetup and joined hoping someone there would take me to the services afterwards (yes they did! 🤣)”

What do you enjoy most about LEX?

‭‭Christianna (practicing Japanese)‬‬
“I enjoy practicing Japanese while laughing a lot! We always have so much fun chatting with each other at LEX. It’s a super friendly environment and awesome for learning together!”

‭‭Erin (learning Japanese)‬‬
“I love learning about new people’s hobbies and personalities.”

Have your language/communication skills changed since joining? How?

Marinus (practicing Japanese)‬‬
“[Yes] Improvement in pronunciation 🗣”

Maki (practicing English)‬‬
“Quicker response (it took more time to start speaking something before. Maybe because of this comfy community, I now don’t have to be afraid of making mistakes.)”

What would you say to someone who’s thinking about joining a LEX meet?

Anna (practicing Japanese)‬‬
“It is fun and easy. Even if just a few vocabulary words in the other language, you can still communicate. Everyone is nice and friendly.”

You might be thinking that your English/Japanese are not enough, but it doesn’t matter! You can just enjoy hanging out with your new international friends here 😁

LEX is a growing community, and we are always welcoming new members.
Why not try it out? New friends are waiting for you!
