Easter eggs, the Easter bunny, and the Bible – what is Easter all about?
When is Easter?
Easter is a Christian holiday that falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring (according to the lunisolar calendar) shortly after the vernal equinox, which means this year Easter Sunday is on April 4th!
What is Easter About?
Easter is about Jesus! He was born miraculously on Christmas Day, grew up, and lived a perfect life. It was not until the age of 33 that He was falsely accused of a crime, executed on a Roman cross, and buried. Three days later, He came back to life, and He’s alive today! Anyone who believes in Him will be given a new heart, start a new life together with God, and live forever with Him in Heaven someday!
How To Celebrate Easter
1. Easter Eggs🥚
In some countries, children dye boiled eggs with bright colors, have egg and spoon races, or hunt for hollow plastic eggs with candy inside. Why? The life of the baby chick in the egg is a symbol of new life!
The story of the Easter Bunny does not come from the Bible, but it is a traditional American tale of a rabbit that hops from house to house and leaves sweets and goodies for children. Other countries associate Easter with other animals. For example, in Switzerland, it is the cuckoo in spring. Why the cuckoo? Cuckoos lay eggs and spring is a time for rebirth!
Egg-shaped candies are tasty, and animals are cute, but the original story of Easter that comes from the Bible is compelling. It has been celebrated all around the world for nearly 2,000 years!
